WHAT IS A SIDE HUSTLE AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

As you continue on the path to financial independence, you have two main ways to accelerate your progress. You can either reduce your expenses or increase your income. A side hustle is any job taken aside one’s full time job. It is that job that earns you some income other than your regular 9-5 job. You don’t have to quit your day job to start a business and it doesn’t necessarily have to be something big.

Depending on your goals, a side hustle may just be for fun or you may have the intention of building this into your main source of income at some point in the future which will bring more financial independence and flexibility in your life. In the contemporary world, most people have taken on a side hustle in order to reduce the financial burden of maintaining the home and catering for their needs.  A side hustle is a means of earning income on top of your day job.

Why is it important?

As we grow, our needs also increase and what a better way to cater for your needs with an extra income which can also provide a cushion in the event of an emergency or unexpected change in your employment situation. Making extra money never goes out of style, and that’s probably what draws most people to create a side hustle. That extra money could be used for a lot of things including vacations without a lot of restrictions. If one stream of income goes away there’s another one ready to help with the hit. A side hustle could also turn into a job you love where your creativity comes to play. It gives you time freedom to work at your own pace which is more effective not to mention a side business can be the best way to get a taste of a future career you might want to ramp up later. Who knows? It may become your main job in the future.

I’m not saying you SHOULD have a side hustle. What I’m saying is that multiple streams of income will be useful and a side hustle is one way to accomplish that. An extra something each month is always a bonus. It is important to note that not everyone may be able to juggle between a regular jib and a side hustle. Find out what works best for you and go with it. A side hustle doesn’t necessarily have to something big.
